MOS: 11B10 Infantryman.

Veron was drafted into the US Army.
Vernon began his Vietnam tour on May 23, 1969 and was assigned to the Army's 101st Airborne Division, 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, Company A.

In the morning hours of July 8, Company A began marching to a location about 3 KM northeast of Hau Duc. They were supposed to rendezvous with a resupply helicopter. A third platoon was ordered to advance and recon the area prior to releasing two squads as perimeter security. As those two squads advanced, they found a line of commo wire. Orders were given to follow the wire. It led them to a small hootch. The squad leader stepped forward and fired into the hootch killing three NVA soldiers. As they turned and headed back down the trail, they heard rifle and machine-gun fire. The second squad was caught in an ambush. During the confusion of the intense battle, some were killed and others fell wounded. Vernon and 10 other soldiers were killed during Operation Lamar Plain in Quang Tin Provice.
Survived by his parents, Curtis A and Evelyn M Artis of 5045 Meade St, Northeast, Washington, DC.
