Zimmer was awarded the following medals: Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal and Triple Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Army of Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation World War II Medal, Republic of Korea War Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and Navy Presidential Unit Citation.
