Funeral services for Gala Ann Clucas Barnett were held July 6 at Atwood Family Chapel in Greybull. Gala, 75, died July 1 at the Advanced Care Hospital of Montana in Billings. Gala suffered a major stroke in 2004 and remained in poor health until her death.
Gala, the daughter of Eileen Loyer, was born Aug. 14, 1939, in Basin; she was later adopted by Donald and Wanda Clucas. She received her education in Greybull and graduated from Greybull High School in 1957. She played clarinet in the high school band and was a member of the band when it played at a football game in Billings.
After graduating from high school, Gala enrolled in a cosmetology school in Denver where she met and married Lee Johnson. The couple had three sons. After Lee’s death, Gala and two sons moved back to Greybull. Her third son was handicapped and remained in a home in Denver.
Gala married Harry G. Barnett on Oct. 1, 1977, at the Bluejacket Country Club. She entered the real estate business with her husband until she received her real estate license in 1984. Harry and Gala opened their own office, Hub Real Estate, where Gala did sales and most of the paperwork.
Gala spent a term as president of the Greybull Chamber of Commerce and worked as a cashier for Country Wide Auction for 15 years until she suffered a stroke.
Gala was fond of her pets, Spencer and Kitty-Kitty; she enjoyed baking for her friends, fishing in the Big Horn River for catfish and walleye. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Her parents, Donald and Wanda Clucas; son, Donald Johnson; brother, John Clucas; sister-in-law, Barbara Clucas; uncle, Clyde Clucas and cousin, Henery Clucas, preceded Gala in death.
She is survived by her husband, Harry Barnett of Greybull; two sons, Dale and Dean Johnson; brother, Don Clucas; a half-brother; three step-daughters and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Burial was in the Donald J. Ruhl Memorial Cemetery. Memorials in Gala’s memory can be made to Big Horn Federal Savings Bank, Box 471, Greybull, WY 82426. Proceeds will benefit the South Big Horn Senior Citizens Center.
