19 years old when he died
The Daily Virginian; 24 June 1862, p.3 c.1
"ROBT. C SAUNDERS, son of Mr. Wm. L. Saunders, Esq., a very promising youth, and a member of the Lynchburg Home Guard, who was wounded in the Battle of Seven Pines, died in this city Saturday last [21 June]. And thus another family circle has been invaded, and another victim of this unholy war has been sacrificed upon the altar of his country. Who will be the last?" (Thank you Anne)
