His brother Samuel used the spelling Danolds and the other family members used Daniels. On his discharge papers in July 1776 his last name was spelled McDonalds. There are many land records at Canaan for Jonathan, sons Ezar and Asher, the name is spelled Donalds in every case examined. Burial records verified by care keeper of the cemetery.
