DEATH OF SUSIE B. GUNN

Miss Susie B. Gunn passed away at her home in Kansas City Sunday evening, May 13, 1928. She was born in this city, the daughter of James W. and Eliza A. Gunn.

Miss Gunn leaves a niece, whom she reared from infancy, Mrs. C.A. Lockwood, of Kansas City; and three sisters, Mrs. Hulda G. Woods and Mrs. J.E. Butler of Kansas City, Mrs. W. H. Miller of Ashburn, Missouri; also one brother, George W. Gunn, of Kansas City.

In early childhood, Miss Gunn united with the Methodist church in this city, removing to Kansas City, she was for a while a member of the Troost Avenue Methodist Church, and later identified herself with the Ivanhoe Park Congregational Church, where she taught in the Sunday school and superintended the primary department.

Throughout her lifetime, Miss Gunn manifested a Christian devotion and service which was an inspiration to all those who knew her, and to those who knew her best and most intimately, she was a veritable benediction. She cherished her Bible and almost until the last read it nightly. She was among the few Christians who could say she had read the entire scripture a number of times.

But it was in the fruits of the spirit, rather than the letter, that chiefly she excelled. Her kindness, unfailing sweetness of spirit, utter lack of malice toward any, and her charity toward all, were beautifully in accord with the Master with whom she walked. Her goodness was purifying and the lover of her heart refreshing.

The pastor of the Ivanhoe church will miss the quiet word of encouragement from Miss Gunn and the devotion of her regular attendance upon all the services of the church.

Standing in the presence of such a character in this hour of farewell, we are moved to blend our voices with that of the ancient seer, who reverently exclaimed, "Blessed are they that die in the Lord."

By her pastor, Rev. Roy Osborn, Chaney-Ivanhoe Park Congregational church, Kansas City, Missouri.
