He was promoted to Private on Jun 15, 1914; Corporal on Jan 24, 1918; and then Sergeant on Apr 24, 1918. After being wounded slightly about Jul 16, 1918, was then killed in action on Oct 13, 1918, at Belleau Woods, at the second Battle of Marne, Argonne.
