After her retirement from Haines Junior High, Grace enjoyed gardening and spending time at home hosting soup nights and family cookouts. She loved the outdoors and vacationing at the family cabin in Hayward, Wisconsin.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Tom) Sakowski and Margaret Wiley, both of St. Charles; three sons, Ronald (Kerry) Gillis, Jr. of Elburn, Glenn (Karen) Gillis of Batavia and Cary Gillis of Elburn; nine grandchildren, Megan (Bobby) Blake, Amanda Gillis, Tracey (Jimmy) Lee, Alexandra and Kelsey Sakowski, Tyler Mendel, Kyle and Emalee Wiley and Carter Gillis; two great-grandchildren, Adyson and Shaelyn Blake; three sisters, Joanne Van Bogaert, Mary Fitzsimmons, and Audrey Heath; two brothers, Richard DePauw and James DePauw; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Grace is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald; her son, Matthew Gillis.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Moss-Norris Funeral Home, 100 S. Third Street (three blocks west of the river and one block south of Rt. 64) in St. Charles.
Funeral services will begin with prayers at the funeral home at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, August 25, 2014 before proceeding to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 400 Cedar Street in St. Charles, to celebrate Mass at 10:30 A.M. Rev. Andrew Deitz celebrant. Interment will follow in Garfield Cemetery in St. Charles.
