BUCYRUS: Matt Lydick, 58, of rural Bucyrus died suddenly on Thursday, July 16, 2015 in the Bucyrus Community Hospital Emergency Room.

He was born January 29, 1957 in Bucyrus, the youngest child of the late Alfred and Eloise (Musser) Lydick. Matt was raised on the family farm he dearly loved and worked on his entire life, both in livestock and seed crops. He graduated from Wynford High School in 1975 where he was active in FFA and worked for over 28 years for the Ohio Department of Transportation before retiring as a foreman. He met Rita Wilson when they were coworkers at ODOT and they were married November 16, 1983.

Matt was a stranger to no one and a great man to hold a conversation with, especially in regard to farming. He enjoyed getting around late and starting his chores, often taking a break to keep the cats and dogs company before making his way to the hospital cafeteria for lunch. He loved having his grandsons around and looked forward to family gatherings on birthdays, holidays or any occasion to eat. He could eat and eat and seemingly never gain weight. Never one to go too far from home, he and Rita enjoyed taking day trips, usually to Amish country where they could meet friends and visit shops. He valued his pocket watch collection and had a tool for any job either in his pocket or close at hand.

Matt is survived by his wife of 31 years, Rita Lydick; children, Scott Lydick, Stephanie Brown-Lydick and Samantha Lydick; grandsons, Blake and Dominick Brown; sisters, Diann Stinehelfer and Kathy (John) Mizick; mother-in-law, Bonnie Wilson; sister-in-law, Kristi (Jim) Kirtland; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, William Wilson.

The Lydick family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 21 from 1-3 and 6-8 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where his funeral will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. Burial will follow in Nevada Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made to the Holmes Twp. VFD for whose response and valiant effort the family is very grateful.
