John M. Balazs Sr., age 78, of Mentor, passed away December 5 at his home in Mentor.
He was born August 7, 1936 in Cleveland and had been a Lake County resident for 50+ years.
Mr. Balazs was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a retired machinist from Reliance Electric, where he worked from 1960 – until his retirement in 1984. In his retirement, he served on the maintenance crew at St. Mary of the Assumption School in Mentor.
He was husband of 39 years to the late Lona J. (Coughlin) Balazs; father of daughter, Debbie (Joe) Longo of Concord and son, John Balazs of Willoughby; grandfather of Lauren, Michaella and Joey Longo Jr; brother of Andrew (Mary Jane) Balazs of Euclid, Julius Balazs of Medina and Mary Whitely of Mentor; brother in law of Robert (Cheryl) Coughlin of N. Royalton, Shirley Coughlin of N. Brecksville and Phyllis Balasz of Willoughby and uncle to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great great-nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat "Brave."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary (Popp) Balazs; and brothers, Joseph and Stephen Balazs.
Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home handled arrangements. Entombment will be in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon.
