Gale Ackerman, 86, Jamestown, North Dakota died Friday, May 19, 2006 at Central Dakota Village in Jamestown.

Gale Leroy Ackerman was born November 22, 1919 in Jamestown, the son of Myron, Jr. and Alice (Rick) Ackerman. He received his education in Clementsville, ND, northeast of Jamestown.

Gale joined the US Army on February 6, 1942 at Fort Snelling, MN. He was a Heavy Artillery Section Chief with Company A, 409th Infantry. Gale served in the battles and campaigns of Normandy, northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and central Europe. He was honorably discharged on September 30, 1945 at Camp McCoy, WI.

Gale married Delphine Fode on June 9, 1946 in Jamestown, where they made their home.

He worked as a sheet metal fabricator and furnace repairman for Milke Heating & Sheet Metal, and later for Greenwood Plumbing and Heating. Delphine died on September 15, 1987. He married Pearl Hendrix on November 22, 1989 in Jamestown.

He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W., Jamestown.

Gale is survived by Pearl Hendrix, Jamestown; one daughter, Lynn (Terry) Nieland, Pingree; one son, Dave (Michelle) Ackerman, Jamestown; six grandchildren, T.J. Carr, Carrington, ND, Missy (Keith) Schroeder, Carrington, ND, Matt Nieland, Pingree, ND, Adam (Chandra) Ackerman, Jamestown, Cristal Ackerman, Jamestown, and Alicia Ackerman, Jamestown; six great grandchildren, Hope Carr, Brooke Carr, Bryce Carr, MaKayla Schroeder, Drew Schroeder, and Mya Schroeder, all of Carrington, ND; and one brother, Don (Lucille) Ackerman, Jamestown.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Delphine; parents; and one brother, Keith.
