James Moulton Dickson was the son of Robert Dickson & Rowena Paine of Giles Co, TN. His first wife was Mary Ann Scruggs, the daughter of George DeJarnette Scruggs and Sarah Hamner Pully, also of Giles Co, TN. They married 25 Oct 1865 in Aspen Hill, Giles Co, TN. They had 4 children; three lived and one daughter died very young.

They moved to Texas in 1882 (from his Confederate Pension Application).

Mary Ann Scruggs died 9 Jan 1899 at age 54 in Hall Co, TX. He married second widow Emeline Demarias (Cowden) Orr on 10 Dec 1903 in Lodge, Hall Co, TX. They did not have children together.

James Moulton was buried with first wife Mary Ann, the mother of his children, in the Union Hill Cemetery in Lakeview, Hall County, TX. Also buried in this cemetery are their son George Robert Dickson and his wife Joanna Hudgins, daughter Mary Moulton Dickson and husband William Henry Youngblood, Mary Elizabeth Dickson, sister of James Moulton, and her husband Jessie Jenkins Reed.

Second wife Emeline Demarias (Cowden) Dickson was buried with her first husband William Warren Orr in the Fairview Cemetery. Her tombstone says, "In Memory of Emeline Demarias, wife of J. M Dickson, relict of W. W. Orr, born 14 Feb 1851, died 30 Oct 1918."

Mr. and Mrs. Dickson (Miss Mary Ann Scruggs) were born at Aspenhill, Tennessee, in 1844 and were married in 1866. They moved to Ellis County, Texas, in 18 80 and to Hall County in 1890, establishing a home one mile north of Deep Lake. Mr. Zimmerman, of the Shoe Bar Ranch, in order to keep his range intact, purchased the Dickson homestead in 1901 and Mr. Dickson settled land near Brice, Mrs. Dickson having died in 1898. They were the parents of three children: Mrs. Lucille Benson of Clarendon, Geo. R. (deceased) and Mrs. Mary M. Young-blood of Brice. In 1902 Mr. Dickson was married to Mrs. Demarious Orr and established a home and business at Lodge. After her death he lived with his son, George, for a number of years, dying ai Clarendon in 1933. He was a Confederate Veteran and was seriously wounded in a skirmish preceding the Battle of Gettysberg. Source: Yesterday in Hall County, Texas by Inez Baker 1940.
