Abram B. "Abe" Beck, 90, longtime partner in a Lancaster County furniture and funeral homes business, died Friday morning at Moravian Manor, Lititz, after a brief illness.

He formerly lived at 216 S. Broad St. and 485 W. Second Ave., both in Lititz.

He was the husband of Ida M. Resh Beck, who died in 1985.

Born in Manheim, he was a son of the late Thaddeus S. and Annie Brandt Beck and was a 1923 graduate of Manheim High School.

He was a partner in Beck Brothers furniture and funeral homes business, which was founded in Manheim by his father in 1899.

He began with the family firm in 1925 as a furniture upholsterer. He then attended Eckel's College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia, graduating in 1933.

Beck became a partner in the firm in 1946, and in 1952 bought the Muth House in Lititz, which became the Beck Funeral Home.

He retired from the furniture business in 1966 and as a funeral director in 1973.

A member of the Lititz Lions Club, he was its president in 1949-50. Beck was a former secretary of the Lititz Chamber of Commerce and secretary/treasurer of the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association from 1957-60.

He was also a member of the Lebanon Country Club.

A member of Lititz Moravian Church, he served on the trustee board.

While residing at Moravian Manor he served as president of the Manor Council and was on the finance and bduilding committee during the construction of Steinman Hall.

Surviving are a daughter, Susan, wife of William R. Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo., a grandson, and a granddaughter.
