Hestella Lucille (Meadows) Southerland left the physical world in the morning hours of Saturday July 18th 2015 surrounded by her family. Hestella, “Stella” to her friends and family, was born in Richmond, Virginia on August 18th, 1930.

She was the beloved daughter of the late Luther and Flossie Meadows. Stella was raised in Elkton, VA with her 5 siblings; Herschel, Melvin, Nelson, Rachel, and Ellis “Dick” Meadows.

Stella was a hard worker and enjoyed working with the public. Two of her favorite jobs were when she managed a sewing factory and her many years spent working at Felt’s Superette store in Lone Grove. Stella was the type of person to never meet a stranger. She will be remembered for her nice, outgoing, and loving personality. She loved listening to classic country music and enjoyed discussing the genre with friend, Tom Brannan. Stella was a natural nurturer, not only to her family and friends, but also to the many animals she rescued and cared for.

The wife of the late James Donald Southerland, they shared many years together raising their family. They were blessed with four children; Sheila Fanah, James Dwight, Sharon Denise, and Vickie Darlene. The family had lived in Georgia for many years prior to making Oklahoma their permanent home in 1975. Although Stella loved being a mother, being a “Mamaw” was where she was given her greatest joy. She was blessed to be the grandmother of her three grandchildren, Derrick Paul, Ashley Nicole, and Joshua Antony, and honored to have two great grandchildren, Cheston David and Aubrey Nicole. Stella would always beam with pride when talking about her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments.
She is predeceased by her husband James Donald Southerland; parents Luther and Flossie Meadows; and four siblings, Herschel Meadows, Melvin Meadows, Nelson Meadows, and Rachel Davis.

Stella is survived by: her brother Ellis “Dick” Meadows of Elkton, VA; her dear four children, Sheila Southerland of Tishomingo, OK, James Dwight Southerland of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Vickie Southerland and Josh Wilson of Fox, OK, and Sharon and David Hunt of Lone Grove, OK; her cherished grandchildren, Derrick and Trista, Ashley and Nick, and Joshua; and her darling two great-grandchildren, Cheston and Aubrey.
