"April 10, 1924 - June 3, 2010

"Alfred S. Harvey, 86, of Olcott, NY, passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at home under Hospice care. Born in Geneva, NY on April 10, 1924. He was the son of the late Sibley and Sara (Jolley) Harvey. Alfred grew up and attended high school in Youngstown, NY. He served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946 during World War II aboard the USS Sheliak as a Seaman First Class. He was stationed in Okinawa and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Bronze Star. On September 13, 1947 he married Martha Stockwell at Exley United Methodist Church in Wilson NY. Martha, his bride of 62 years, died March 29, 2009. Mr. Harvey farmed with his father, worked at Lockport Felt Company and later worked at Harrison Radiator, General Motors for 34 years. He was a member of Warrens Corners United Methodist Church, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion and the United Auto Workers Travel Club. Mr. Harvey enjoyed yard work and his garden, supplying friends, neighbors, and co-workers with arm loads of vegetables. He also enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife and family. He was much loved by everyone who knew him. He is survived by three children, * * *; seven grandchildren, * * *; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; twin brother, Albert Harvey of Newfane; two sisters-in-law, Marian Winger of Wilson and Beatrice Hicks of Phoenix, Arizona. He is predeceased by a brother, Richard Harvey; and a sister, Eleanor (Paradise) Steinfeldt. Alfred is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Saturday June 5th from 3-7 PM at the RUTLAND-CORWIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2670 Main St., Newfane, NY, where a memorial service will be held Sunday, June 6th at 2:00 PM with The Rev. Carl Chamberlain officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Wilson, NY at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Alfred's name to his church, Warrens Corners United Methodist Church, 5293 Stone Rd., Lockport, NY 14094 or Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094 would be greatly appreciated by the family."
