He was born Wednesday, October 4, 1916 in Aurora, Indiana, the son of the late Robert Albert Dowers and the late Bessie DeWitt Dowers.
He worked as a conductor and yard master for New York Central Railroad, retiring after over 30 years of service. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Auxiliary, Aurora Moose Lodge. Louis enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards. His passion was playing golf and being with friends and family.
Surviving are his wife, Della Dowers of Aurora, IN; daughter, June (Jack) Ramey of Aurora, IN; grandchildren: Eric Ramey, Kimberley Ramey; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son, Louis Steven Dowers, and wife, Mary Lou Dowers.
Memorial visitation and service will be held 4-7 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2012, at the American Legion, 119 Bridgeway, Aurora, IN 47001 in the backroom. The outside entrance is on the side of the building.
