FUNERAL RITES HELD SATURDAY FOR W.H. WEIGHTMAN-

Store Closed During the Services:

"Mound City stores closed Saturday afternoon during the hour in which the funeral service of W.H. Weightman was conducted. That gesture was in tribute to the respect this community held for him.

His passing came Thursday, August 18, following an illness of several weeks.

The Reverend James B. Friese, pastor of the Methodist Church conducted the service at which no biography was read.

Mr. Weightman was a native of Mound City, born September 7, 1871. During his lifetime he was engaged in some sort of service for this community most of the time in one way or another. His business monument is the Farmers Mutual Fire and Lightning Insurance Company, which owes much of its success to his leadership almost from its inception.

He was a Methodist, a 50-year lifetime Mason, a Kiwanian, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and secretary of the "Farmers Mutual." He was president of the Mound City School Board for 25 years, president of the state association of Farmers Mutual Insurance Companies for two terms, and one term as a regent for Northwest Missouri State College. He taught school in Holt County as a young man. And served a term as county assessor.

He was a man with many friends and so far as is known, no enemies. His funeral service was attended by state insurance association officials, members of the bar in Nodaway County, state police, county officials from several northwest Missouri counties, newspapermen from Gentry, Nodaway, and Atchison counties, and the home folks.

He is survived by Circuit Judge W. Ray Weightman, a son; and daughters, Mrs. Loma Jones, Webster Groves, MO, and Miss Esther Weightman, Madison, Wisc.

Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery."
