Funeral services for Verneta Marie Johnston, 60, of Rutledge will be held at 10:30 Thursday morning (February 23, 1989) in Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel, Edina. The Rev. Edwin L. Bausell and the Rev. Ernest Deatrick will conduct the services. Music selections will be, “Beyond The Sunset” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Burial will be in the Pauline cemetery at Rutledge.

Mrs. Johnston died at 8:17 Monday evening (February 20, 1989) in the Kirksville Osteopathic Medical Center.

Born June 5, 1928, near Green City, she was the daughter of John and Eva Spray Bausell. On March 12, 1946, in Kirksville she was married to Ervin Johnston who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Maynard Johnston of Gorin and Danny Johnston of Rutledge; two daughters; Mrs. Richard (Rose Marie) Baker of Greentop and Wanda Johnston of Carmichael, California; one brother, Eldon Bausell of Kirksville and seven grandchildren, Jeremy Johnston, Ginger Lou Baker, Nakisha Phillips, Geshaua Phillips, Gabriel Houston, Lindsey Houston and Jamie Johnston.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Earl Bausell and Therman Bausell and two sisters, Mabel Wells and Anabelle Pipes.

Mrs. Johnston was reared in the Green City community. She attended Green City public schools and Nursing school in Milan. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Johnston resided in the Rutledge community.

She was a member of the Fair View Christian Church at Winigan.
