Irene Margaret Mayer Nelson was raised in York for most of her life. She worked at Wolf Manufacturing in Mt Wolf as a floor
lady. Her sister Annie B was married to Henry Wolf. His family were the founding family of Mt Wolf, PA.
From what we can gather Irene met a Mr. Nelson and they married. He must have been working on the Panama Canal because records show that Irene left the Canal Zone on Oct 15 1926 and arrived in New York on Oct 26 1926.
Her last known address was here in York and the last date seen was April 20,1927.She told her family she was to join her husband in New Orleans,La.She was never heard from again.
10 years later on March 2 1937 her father and sister Annie petitioned the court to have her declared legally dead. The court granted their request on August 3 1937.
Although Irene is really not buried here the rest of her family is and I feel it is only fitting that she rest in peace with them.
