She was born in Plummers Mill, Kentucky in Fleming County to John and Elizabeth Butcher. Helen graduated from Flemmingsburg High School in 1939 and moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1940.
Helen was a long time employee and retired from the National Solvent Corp. She met and married Forest VanBlargan in Cleveland, Ohio and was happily married until his death in 1981.
She loved traveling around the country and vacationing to Alaska three times was one of her favorite trips. She enjoyed fishing and bragged about the many big catches from Canada. Family above all was her model. She loved to entertain and cook for friends and family. She was a life-long member of the Shilo Methodist Church in Plummers Mill, Kentucky, an Associate Member of Danville United Methodist Church and a member of the Apple Valley Fish Club.
Helen is survived by two step sons, Joseph (Kathy) VanBlargan, John VanBlargan; her loving sister Frankie Boothe; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her first husband William Streidl; her second husband Forest VanBlargan; brothers Clarence, Russell, Thomas, and Gordon Butcher; and her sisters Alice Cooper and Edith Engle.
Friends may call on Saturday from 10-11AM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home (201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050) with the service to follow beginning at 11AM with Pastor Jason Humble officiating. The graveside committal will be held in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon, Ohio beginning at 3PM.
