George was a member of Company I the 3rd Tennessee Infantry, Civil War.One curious statement in his pension file read "wounded in the back at Crab Creek Orchard, Kentucky
January 14, 1879". No explanation was given. George stood 5 feet 9-10 inches tall with a fair complexion, light hair and blue eyes. He married Martha England August 12, 1851. George became disabled with bronchitis during the evacuation from Cumberland Gap to Galipolis, Ohio while under the command of General Morgan. On the 29th of April 1878 he listed his occupation as photographer.
