19 Jul 2006: Phyllis L. Charleston, 86, died Monday, July 17, 2006, at her residence, the York Lutheran Home at Sprenkle Drive. She was the wife of the late John Glenn Charleston. Born December 10, 1919, in York, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Nora (Baer) Lehr. Phyllis was a 1937 graduate of North York High School and a graduate of Thompson Business School. She retired as a secretary from St. Peters Lutheran Church with 25 years of service. Mrs. Charleston was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church and Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Surviving are daughter Joyce E. and her husband, Michael R. Gingerich of York; two grandchildren, Andrew S. and his wife, Josie M. Gingerich of York and Heidi A. and her husband, Phillip Bales of Fairfield, CT; three great-granddaughters; and four brothers, E. Sargent, A. Henry, Dale E., and John L. Lehr, all of York; and sister Lois E. Smith of York. Funeral Thursday at St. Peters Lutheran Church, York, Rev. Jerry Smith, interim pastor of St. Peters Lutheran Church, officiating.
