This is my grandfather. To us kids he was known as Daddy Frank. He was a very fun loving person. Some times he was a bigger kid than the children. He had a overflowing personality. I believe any one who ever met him had to love him. My brothers and sisters and myself spent a lot of time with him and his wife, Mama Dolly. He always called her "Gal". They were a big part of our life.
He was a native of Wayne County, MS, son of Daniel Elbert (Dan Hammer) West and Mary McLain. He was the ninth child of ten born to them.
He was the father of six children, he was preceded in death by four of them.
When I was a young child he left Wayne County and moved his family to Jackson. He and his wife went to work for Mississippi Industries for the Blind. Sometimes we would go home to Wayne County for a visit and on the way he would have us stopping several times to eat. We would stop at almost every fruit stand, ice Cream stand and at least one restaurant on the way. A trip that should have taken a couple of hours would take several hours. We loved to go on trips with him.
