Lucille "Lucy" Dawson Eisenhower, 91, born April 3, 1921, a resident of Fairhope for the past 17 years, died November 22, 2012, at a local healthcare facility.
Lucy was born in Birmingham, AL to James A. and Leila M. Dawson. She was educated in the Birmingham area, Baldwin County, and New York City, later moving to Tacoma, WA, where she married Edgar N. Eisenhower, an attorney, in 1950. Mr. Eisenhower passed away in 1971. Mrs. Eisenhower resided in the Northwest for 23 years, where she was very politically active. She later moved to Houston, TX, living there for 27 years, where she retired from Occidental Chemical Corporation's International Dept.
In Houston, "Mrs. Lucy" was very active with numerous organizations including the Foundation for American Christian Education for Children, Free Enterprise Institute, The Heritage Foundation, and The Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge. She was awarded the George Washington Honor Medal for her achievement of developing and producing The Tuesday Forum in Houston. She was also involved with ProAmerica of Houston and honored for her continued efforts and contribution to the preservation of the Constitutional form of Government established upon spiritual principles. "Mrs. Lucy" was Director of the Economic Extension Program of Northwood Institute in Houston, a Trustee and Director of Free Market Education Foundation, an advisor and presenter of Economic Educational Programs.
She is preceded in death by two sisters, three brothers, and two nephews.
Mrs. Eisenhower is survived by one sister, Virginia D. Hoiles Boseck of Robertsdale, AL, and one sister-in-law, Virginia M. Dawson of Loxley, seven nieces, four nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and two step-grand children.
The family will receive friends Sunday, November 25, 2012, at 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope, AL.
A private services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials will be made to charity of choice.
