Joan Etolia Abbott, 84 of Baxter Springs, KS passed from this life On Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the home of her daughter with the family surrounding her.

Joan was born on June 6, 1931 in Baxter Springs, KS to the union of Clarence E. Brittle and Edna Earl (Ryan) Brittle.

Joan was united in marriage to Truman D. Abbott on March 11, 1950 in Bentonville, AR. He preceded her in death on May 10, 1987.

Joan worked as a nurse’s assistant at the former Baxter Springs Memorial Hospital and Freeman Hospital for more than forty years.

Joan loved being outdoors mowing or tending to her garden.

Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Truman Abbott; parents, Clarence and Edna Brittle; one brother, Shannon Brittle; one grandson, Aaron Abbott; one great grandson, Jordan Krokroskia.

Joan is survived by one son, David Abbott and wife Esther of Carl Junction, MO; one daughter, Debbie Stewart of Baxter Springs, KS; three sisters, Leone Cochran of Washington State, Rayma Hunt of Joplin, MO, and Becky Pendleton of Overland Park, KS; four grandchildren, Stacy Krokroskia and husband Jimmy, Billy York and significant other, Maegen Graber, Grace Sinkuler and husband Tim, and Wendy Abbott; eleven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 1, 2015 t the Lowell Cemetery.

Harley Souder will officiate the service.

Family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-7:00 p.m., at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel.

Serving as pallbearers are, Colton Krokroskia, Brayden Krokroskia, Jimmy Krokroskia, Billy York, Logan York, and Quintin Brittle.
