Charles John Ackerman, age 92, born July 3, 1915 in Hammond, IN to Louise (Engle) Ackerman and Charles Emil Ackerman, both preceded him in death. He is survived by wife of 65 years Ruth (Davis) Ackerman of Lowell, IN; daughter Carol (Ackerman) Normand of Janseville, WI; son Richard Ackerman of Mainesville, OH and Ralph (Anne) Ackerman of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; grandchildren: Erin Johnson of Eau Claire, WI, Gen (Sean) Mabutt of Genoa, IL; Becky and Charles; two great-grandsons Alex and Henry and two great-granddaughters: Lily and Adie; sister Marie (Ackerman) Ongena of Oak Park, IL. After retiring from BP, worked for a number of years at Midtown Hardware in Lowell. Charles for many years was active in the Cedar Lake Fish and Game Club and the Crown Point Eagles. He was a member of the Lowell Church of Christ and as a boy he drove a horse drawn wagon through the intersection of Rt. 41 and 133rd St. when Rt. 41 was a tree lined gravel road. In the 1950's, after he received his private pilot's license, Charlie flew a single engine aircraft over the same intersection. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Eller Brady Funeral Home with service to follow at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Interment German Methodist Cemetery in Cedar Lake, IN on Rt. 41 with Pastor Chuck Hochmuth officiating. Published in The Times on Feb. 1, 2008
