Mr. Cottrell was born March 5, 1941, in Ralls County, MO to Jim and Odessia Nelson Cottrell.

He was married for over 50 years to Lillie Ann Laird. They were married on July 4, 1964 at Salem Baptist Church in rural Center, MO. She survives.

Other survivors include 1 daughter, Heather Cottrell, 1 brother, Billy Cottrell and his wife Virginia, brother in law, Alan Laird and his wife Linda, sister in law, Martha Cottrell and nieces and nephews and his grand-cat, Ellie Mae.

He is preceded in death by his parents, mother in law, father in law (Merle and Aretta Mae Cornelius Laird), 2 infant brothers, and infant sister, Betty, 1 sister, Wanda Sue Runyon, and 2 brothers James E. Cottrell, and Roy Cottrell, 1 brother in law Lloyd Runyon, and two sister in laws: Linda E. Cragen Laird and Lois Hickerson Cottrell. He was also preceded by two special cats, Kalamazoo "Kallie", and Garfield "Gar".

Mr. Cottrell was a graduate of Center High School Class of 1959. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Wayne worked as a union pipe fitter and he also worked at Hercules in Louisiana, MO and retired from American Cyanamid as maintenance of electrical instruments. He enjoyed making jewelry and doing lapidary work by making belt buckles, pocket knives and jewelry with rocks. Wayne liked western art (Charles Russell and Edward Curtis were particular favorites) and history. He collected coins, glass soda bottles and Native American Indian artifacts. He loved to garden both flowers and vegetables and always had the home place looking lovely and plenty of vegetables for Lillie to can all she wanted to can! Wayne was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved the outdoors. Wayne loved sports and especially enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball, St. Louis Rams Football, St. Louis Blues Hockey and the Mizzou Tigers. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church and a former Sunday school teacher and deacon. Before his health began to fail he also served and did much work with the Salt River Baptist Association. He also did pulpit supply and preached as a layman in many small rural churches in the area. My Dad loved Jesus, then loved his family. He would help anyone with anything. He could fix anything. I never worried cause I could always call Dad.

Memorial contributions may be made to Salem Baptist Church or Salem Baptist Cemetery in care of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Joe Miller, Kevin Laird, Marty Laird, Tom Benjamin, Ted Broemmer, and Brent Costigan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randi Lipp, Kenneth Young, Bill Cornelius, Glenn Cornelius, and Mr. Cottrell's Nieces and Nephews.
