JENNINGS WOMAN IS KILLED BY BACKING VEHICLE ON SUNDAY
Mrs. Jennie Samis, 76, of Jennings, was hit by a backing car on Sunday at 10:05 P.M. and died early this morning as a result of the injuries.
Mrs. Samis and Mrs. Goldie Hanson, her niece, of Midland, who was visiting in her home, were walking Mrs. Robert Carson home when the accident happen.
Mrs. Carson reported the ladies were in the roadway just about at the driveway when Raymond Hill, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Hill, of 460 LaChonce Rd., backed his car out.
Mrs. Samis seemed to become excited and ran directly into the back of the car, it was reported.
She was taken to Mercy Hospital in Cadillac were she died at 2:30 A.M. today.
Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Samis Wednesday 1:30 P.M. at the Peterson Funeral Home. Rev. Vern Wessman will officiate. Burial will be in the Jennings cemetery.
Mrs. Samis was born May 21, 1884 at Fife Lake. She was married to the late Forrest Samis in 1904 in Jennings. He died in 1952. She had lived in Jennings for 57 years, had worked in the hotel at Lake City and at the time Jennings was active, had worked in the Jennings hotel. She had a membership in the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Surviving with a daughter, Mrs. Herbert (Luella) Geskus of Grand Rapids, are two grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
Jennie's death certificate states she died from a fractured skull, shock and internal bleeding.
