Willie Sam "Buddy" Johns was born on March 24, 1918, in Dibble, Oklahoma to Lillie A. Coleman, age 23, and George C. Johns, age 33. He married Mildred Ella Fallwell on March 26, 1944, in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma. He died on October 4, 1985, in Fresno, California, at the age of 67, His ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean near Face Rock at Bandon, Oregon.

Buddy was the first husband of Mildred Ella Fallwell. He was the father of her only child, Barbara Lorene Johns, who was stillborn. They were later divorced. Many years later, in 1985, Mildred found Buddy in the Veteran's hospital in Fresno, California, when he was very ill. She stayed with him at the hospital and cared for him until his death on October 4, 1985.
