Marie Marks, 83, passed away and went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, April 17, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.

She was born in Braxton County, W.Va., the daughter of the late William Jackson and Bertie Elizabeth (Meadows) King.

She was a graduate of Normantown High School and attended Glenville State College. Marie had been a postmaster in Rosedale, W.Va., from 1960-1963. From 1963 to 1978, she had been credit manager at Montgomery Wards, from 1978 until her retirement in 1988, she was collections officer at Ohio Valley National Bank in Vienna. After her retirement, she worked part-time for Community Bank in Vienna in new accounts. Marie was a volunteer with Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital for several years. Marie was a very active member of Grace Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, served on the building committee, the stewardship committee, was a Sunday School, AWANA and Bible school teacher, active in 4-H as a leader and camp counselor and the Vienna Women Club.

She is survived by the love of her life, her husband, Herman J. Marks, whom she married on Dec. 29, 1945; one daughter, Elizabeth Jean Simmons (Randy) of Parkersburg; one son, David H. Marks (Beverly) of New Bern, N.C.; four grandchildren, Nathan P. Simmons (Patricia) and Justin A. Simmons (Jymme), all of Parkersburg, A. Rene Lewis (Cory) of New Bern, N.C., and Melissa M. Marks of Parkersburg; and four great-grandchildren, Shayla Marks and Haley R. Simmons, both of Parkersburg, and Chelsea and Cory Lewis Jr. of New Bern, N.C. Her family was her sole meaning in life along with her church and her Lord and Savior. Marie and her family enjoyed many wonderful vacations in Washington, D.C., Myrtle Beach, S.C., Canaan Valley, W.Va., and Denver, Colo. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Marie White of Elyria, Ohio, and Faye Marks of Denver, Colo.; several nieces and nephews; and a special daughter, Angelita Garcia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Mirrell Newell (Elva), Rex Schafer (Glena), Harley King (Gladys) and Wes King; and seven sisters, Artha Carroll (Jack), Mary Williams (Gary), Stella Furby (Dewey), Ivy Miller (Bernard), Edith Carter (Orville), Virgie Jarvis (Cecil) and Hattie Digman (Ollie).

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, with Pastor Todd Hill and Dr. James McCullen officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
