George Vernon Abbott
1933-2008

George was born on May 16, 1933, and passed away on Dec. 9, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann; mother, Helen Abbott; father, Frank Abbott and sister, Helen Serena.

He is survived by daughters, Laurel Pinney and Janet Thurston; foster son, Randy O'Donnell; sisters, Myrna (Jack) Jensen and Jane (Mark) Miller; grandchildren, Brenda Wallerstedt, Brian Thurston, Tyler, Chelsea and Sophia Swarbrick, Hanna Pinney; five great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and family members.

George was a musician and played the bass fiddle in several dance bands, sang with the barbershoppers, the church choir. He was an electrician by trade and had an innate ability to fix anything. After retiring from Pueblo Community College, he worked at Sangre de Cristo Hospice.

He was a loving father and devoted husband, tenderly caring for his wife, Margaret Ann, through a lengthy illness until her death in March 2007.

Memorial service, 10 a.m. Dec. 16, 2008, Westminster Presbyterian Church, 10 University Circle, with private family inurnment to follow at Imperial Memorial Gardens. Contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church. Funeral arrangements under the direction of George McCarthy Funeral Home.
