Evangeline was born January 1, 1924 in Alto, TX and passed away July 30, 2015 in Deer Park, TX. She was raised in the community of Lynches Chapel in Alto and graduated from Alto High School. In 1943, she married W.T. (Dugan) Trevathan of Rusk and lived in Houston, TX until his death in 1957 when she and their two children, Mike and Gayla, moved to Alto. In 1971, she married J.B. Bowden of Rusk and lived in Rusk until his death in 2012. Evangeline was living at San Jacinto Manor in Deer Park, TX when she died.
Upon moving to Alto in 1957, Evangeline attended beauty school in Nacogdoches and worked with sister-in-law Corrine Booker, in Jacksonville, Erma Lee Lindsey in Alto and Mary Kate West in Alto as a hair stylist. She was dedicated to her children, involved in Alto schools and the community and loved to cook for family and was famous for her banana pudding and her chicken and dressing. She also enjoyed gardening, shopping, and crocheting.
She is preceded in death by her father, Frank Hendrick, her mother and step-father, Meddie and Hugh Goff, brothers, Joe Bob Hendrick and wife Annie, E.F. Hendrick and wife Oneta, sisters, Rosa Thompson and husband Blackie, Molene Wallace and husband Thomas, Lorene Ivy and husband Othel, Billie Frank Hendrick, and brother –in-law Preston Lively.
Evangeline is survived by her son Mike Trevathan and wife Melionee, daughter Gayla Garnett and husband Don. Known as “Doe” to many family and friends, she was especially loved by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Mindy Dennis, husband Chad and son Coleman; Dugan Trevathan, wife Chrissy and daughters Emmi, Lily and Annabell; Ryan Garnett and daughters Carlee and Kameryn; Stacey McDowell, Husband Mike, sons William and Jude and daughter Micah.
She is also survived by her sister, Marceline Lively; a special sister-in-law, Marian Hudson, many nieces and nephews and dear friends.
