Mr. Robert "Bob" Jones, 91, went to be with the Lord June 6, 2015, at Southeastern Hospice House, in Lumberton.
He was born April 28, 1924, in Philadelphia, Pa. He was a veteran in the U.S. Army during WWII. Bob was employed with Civil Service at Ft. Bragg and retired in 1983 after 34 years.
During Bob's earlier years, he enjoyed following NASCAR, traveling to many races.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hardy and Bertha Jones; his siblings, John W. Jones, Dorothy J. Revels, Ervin Jones and Maggie Jones.
He leaves behind a devoted wife of 66 years, Betty Sue Jones and five children; Jerry (Gloria) Jones, Fred (Evette) Jones, Cynthia (Victor) Hunt, Paula (Reid) Greene, and Eric Scott Jones; a brother, George (Ila) Jones of Alhambra, Calif.; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; numerous nieces, nephews; and a multitude of friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southeastern Hospice House or Alzheimer's Research.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ten Mile Center Baptist Church, Pastor Greg Lowery and the Rev. Earney Hammonds officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday before the service at Ten Mile Baptist Church.
