Iva Elrod Snell Norris Skipper, 95, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, joined family and friends in the arms of the Lord on Friday, July 21, 2006.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Monday in Wade Family Funeral Home Chapel, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, with the Rev. H. Wayne Biggs officiating. Burial: Hudson Cemetery, Kennedale. Visitation: The family will receive friends 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Wade Family Funeral Home.

Memorials: Memorial gifts may be made in her name to Mission Arlington, 210 W. South St., Arlington, Texas 76010.

Iva was born April 17, 1911, to Isaac and Suzie Alice Elrod. Born and raised in Kennedale, Iva was the fifth of nine children and a 1929 graduate of Kennedale High School. With her husband in the military, Iva lived in several areas of the country, all the while, working hard to provide a good home for her four children. By 1955, Iva and her family moved back to the place she loved best, Arlington. With the training received from her brother-in-law, George Snell, of Snell's Florist, Iva opened the front part of her home as Iva's Flower Shop, the family business that still today carries on her legacy.

An active businesswoman, Iva participated in helping to build Arlington's present business community as well as being a role model for women in business and the workforce as a whole.

As a proud citizen of Arlington, Iva could be found participating in community events, fundraisers or other charitable activities. A devoted Christian and longtime member of First Baptist Church of Arlington, Iva enjoyed praising God through song and service. Iva was always first to stand up and lend a helping hand whenever and wherever she saw a need.

In retirement, Iva took much pleasure in the Arlington Swinging Seniors Kitchen Band, a group that she helped to organize to bring happiness to others through song. The group routinely performs at nursing homes, churches and schools in the area.

Iva's cheerful smile, generous heart and strength of spirit will be profoundly missed by those of us whose lives she touched so deeply. With flowers, as with life, the one thing that lasts long after our bloom fades is the impression we leave in the eyes and hearts of those who remain. We thank the Lord for sharing this precious child with us. The brightest part of our beloved grandmother, mother and friend will truly live on within our hearts.

Iva will be greeted with a warm welcome home by many friends and family who have gone before; three sisters and five brothers; mother, Alice; father, Ike; and two of her sons, Weldon Jack and Derrell, just to name a few.

Survivors: Daughter, Alice Biggs of Arlington; son, Frank Snell of North Richland Hills; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
