Claude Sylvester had two brothers Thurmon David and Robert Houston and two sisters Myrle Mogan and Georgia who died young. He was the son of George Washington and Harriet Rebecca Housmon. Daddy Claude did whatever he could to provide a living for Nannie and his 3 daughters. At one time he worked at the Wide A Wake Cafe on Route 66 in Oklahoma. For awhile he worked for my father Joe Dixon in the oil business. He always had cows and chickens and grew vegetables like the best fresh corn on the cob in the world. He tried to show me how to milk a cow. I never quite mastered the art. He stopped to change a flat tire and was struck by a hit and run driver and never walked without a cane again. For a long while he was in a wheel chair. He had to have a special hospital bed to sleep in. His wife and his girls remained devoted to him until the day he died. He tried to make a relationship with me by teasing. I told Nannie to make him stop. I'm sorry Daddy Claude. I'll make it up to you when I get there. N
