On October 1928, he was convicted of conspiracy to defraud the city and was sentenced to one year in prison and fined $500. Following an unsuccessful appeal, he went to prison from 1930 to 1931.
Connolly died from a cerebral hemorrhage, in Forest Hills Gardens, Queens in New York City on November 24, 1935. His body was interred at Mount St. Mary's Cemetery in Flushing, New York.
