OBITUARY: Frank W. Kvapil Dies of Wounds In Italy May 21 - reprinted from the June 15, 1944 Pierce County Herald, page 1.

Another Pierce County boy has made the supreme sacrifice for his country. Joseph Kvapil of River Falls Township last week received a telegram from the War department informing him of the death of his brother, Private Frank W. Kvapil, on May 21, from wounds received the preceding day in an action somewhere between the beachhead and Rome.

Private Kvapil served in the 34th Division of General Clark's Fifth Army in North Africa and went with the forces to Italy.

He was wounded in Italy in October, 1943, and he was confined to a hospital until Christmas day. He recovered to again see action in the Anzio area.

The death of Private Kvapil is mourned by a wide circle of friends who join in extending sincere sympathy to the family.

Pvt. Kvapil Remains Will Be Returned, reprinted from the July 8, 1948 Pierce County Herald

The casketed remains of Pvt. Frank Kvapil, a World War 11 deceased member of the U. S. Army from Ellsworth being returned from overseas for final burial will arrive within five weeks accompanied by a uniformed Army escort from the Chicago Distribution Center of the American Graves Registration Division.

The body of Private Kvapil was interred in the Nettuno Military Cemetery in Italy, but has been returned to this country for final interment at the request of his brother John W. Kvapil of Ellsworth Township.

Appropriate ceremonies and honors will be rendered the deceased by the American Legion upon arrival.
