Joe Natale was born in Denver's Little Italy to Italian immigrants Jim Natale from Taranta Peligna, and Mary Pace whose parents were from Potenza, Italy. He was an only child. All his considerable extended family lived within a 3 block area. He attended Denver's Bryant Webster Elem, Horace Mann & North High, graduating in 1940.

He attended Denver University & graduated in 1944 with a BA in Political Science. He was in the Navy from 1943-1946 in the South Pacific where he was in several battles. Upon returning home he got a Masters Degree from DU in Gov. Mgt.

On Jan. 20, 1946 he married the love of his life, Kaye Duncan. They made their home in Denver and had two children.

Joe's career started as a high school business teacher. He then was the Director of the DPS Pension & Benefit program, and finally CEO of PERA, where he retired in 1985.

Joe & Kaye traveled all over the world after his retirement. They enjoyed their friends. The saddest year of his life was when Kaye passed in 2006. They were married 60 years.

He leaves a legacy of love, generosity, honesty, strength, courage, wisdom and history for his two children, 4 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren, who adored him. God bless him.
