Reford Melton Archer was born in Bailey, Oklahoma on May 5, 1913 to parents John Thomas Archer and Hester Evelyn Archer. He was the oldest of eight children and married Floretta Mae Steppick on September 24, 1936 in Rush Springs, Oklahoma. He died unexpectedly at the hospital in Marlow, Oklahoma from complications with appendicitis. Melton was only 25 years of age. He left behind a daughter, Melba Lynn Archer age two and a son, Charles Reford Archer, age 6 months.
