Mr. Friend was born Dec. 28, 1939, in Isabella, Mo., the son of Willie and Opal Friend. He had lived in Independence for 40 years before moving to Huggins six years ago. He retired from the Ford Motor Co. in 1999 after 31 years of service. He was a Mason at Sheffield Lodge for many years. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Jack Friend, in 1993, and son, Kenny Friend, on Feb. 23, 2006, after a battle with cancer.
His survivors include his wife of almost 47 years, Francis Friend of the home; his mother, Opal Friend of Gainsville, Mo.; two brothers, Buddy Friend of Peculiar, Mo., and Billy Friend of Butler, Mo.; four sisters, Lucille Donley of Isabella, Elma Jean of Gainsville, Ada Beard of Ava, Mo., and Wanda Beard of Gainsville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen "Susie" and Charles Luna of Independence, and Dixie and Rodney Hayes of Lathrop, Mo.; one son, Gary Friend of Independence; and five grandchildren, Charla Luna of Independence, Kenny Friend Jr. of Huggins, Kurtis Friend of Blue Springs, Mo., Chad Friend of Liberty, Mo., and Danielle Kepler of Lathrop.
Tesley loved his wife, family and grandchildren very much. He loved to ride, he was a "true cowboy." He will be missed by all.
Funeral services were Thursday, July 20, in Gainsville. Burial was in Friend Cemetery, Isabella. Arrangements were under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainsville.
