From the 4/21/1910 Van Wert, Ohio, Daily Times: "Miss Ethel Akom, of Pleasant township, died of measles which developed serious complications, Wednesday night, shortly after eleven o'clock. Miss Akom, since infancy has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Balyeat, and was well and most favorably known to a large circle of friends. She was a graduate of the township schools and had successfully passed the Boxwell examinations. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.S. Akom, are also residents of Van Wert county. The deceased was a young lady of unusual attainments and her loss will be keenly felt by all with whom, in life, she had chosen to come in contact.
Funeral arrangements have not as yet been completed."

From the 4/22/1910 Van Wert, Ohio, Daily Times: "The funeral of Miss Ethel Ackom was held from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Balyeat, Saturday morning at ten o'clock. She was aged twenty-two years and was popular. She suffered from an attack of measles but her condition was not deemed serious until a few hours before her death."
