Shawnee Chisika or Cheeseekau minor chief, {other memorials have 'Chief' in their name too}, of the Kispoko division of the Shawnee Nation
customary to call Cheeseekau Runningwater as lived in Runningwater Town, where Dragging Canoe had lived. Dragging Canoe has died before spring in 1792 so Cheeseekau led Runningwater Town and John Watts to the other towns.

Relations: Five younger brothers, including Tecumseh, , Sauwaseekau(A Door Open), Nehaseemo, Kumskaukau; sister Tecumapease

Parents: Puckeshinwa b.1755 Kispoko, Ohio United States d.Oct 10 1774 Ohio United States Cheeseekau's father was named Puckshinwa (in Shawnee, Puckeshinwau, meaning 'Alights from Flying', 'Something that drops' or 'I light from flying', 'Pucksinwah', 'Peekishinoah', 'Chief Young Eagle' also known as Puckeshinwa, Pucksinwah, Pukshinwa, Pukeesheno, Pekishinoah, Pooksehnwe and other variations), a minor Shawnee war chief of the Kispoko ('Dancing Tail' or 'Panther') band and the Panther Clan of the tribe. According to some sources, Puckshinwa's father was Muscogee (Creek) and his mother was Shawnee & Methoataaskee mother was Methotaske (in Shawnee, Methoataaskee, meaning '{One who} Lays Eggs in the Sand' or 'A turtle laying eggs in the sand', also known as Methoataske, Meetheetashe, Methotase and Methoatase), Puckshinwa's second wife. She is believed to have been Shawnee through her father and her mother, possibly of the Pekowi band and the Turtle Clan. Some traditions hold that she was Cree, because she had lived among that tribe prior to marriage; some hold that she was Cherokee, having died in old age living among that tribe; still others hold that she was a white captive, as family stories claim that Puckshinwa had been married to a white captive. Tecumseh's great-great grandfather on his mother's side, Straight Tail Meaurroway Opessa, was a prominent Chief of the Pekowi and the Turtle Clan.
(c. 1760–1792), better known as Matthew, was a minor war chief of the Kispoko division of the Shawnee Nation. Also known as Pepquannakek (Gunshot), Popoquan (Gun), Sting, and Chiksika. Although primarily remembered as the eldest brother and mentor of Tecumseh, who became famous after death. Cheeseekau was a well-known leader in his own time, and a contemporary of Blue Jacket.

Few details are known about Cheeseekau's early life. He may have been born along the Tallapoosa River in what is now Alabama. His parents, Puckeshinwa and Methoataaskee, moved north to the Ohio Country around the time of his birth. After Pukeshinwa's death in the Battle of Point Pleasant in 1774, Cheeseekau assumed much of the responsibility for his younger brothers, including Tecumseh and Tenskwatawa, who was a triplet. One triplet died young, the other surviving triplet Kumskaukau b. 30 Jan 1771-1775

During the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), Cheeseekau joined with those Shawnees who allied themselves with the British and sought to drive the American settlers out of Kentucky. After the war, as Americans expanded into Ohio, in 1788 Cheeseekau led a group of Shawnees to Missouri. American colonists were moving to Missouri too, and so Cheeseekau instead resettled his band at the village of Running Water on the Tennessee River. There he joined Dragging Canoe's militant Chickamauga Cherokee, fighting against American expansion. He died in February 1788, after being mortally wounded during an attack on Bledsoe's Station, a frontier fort near Nashville, TN.

Kispoko (also spelled Kiscopocoke, Kispokotha, Spitotha) is the name of one of the five divisions (or septs) of the Shawnee, a Native American people. The Kispoko were the smallest of the five septs or divisions during the 18th century. They lived among the Creek as early as 1650, having been driven from their Ohio country homeland by the Iroquois Confederacy during the Beaver Wars. They returned about 1759. The other four divisions were the Chalahgawtha, Mekoche, Pekowi, and Hathawekela. (Each of the five division names have been spelled in a great variety of ways.) Together these divisions formed the loose confederacy that was the Shawnee tribe. The septs tended to serve different functions for the overall confederacy.

Where his remains were left. The blood stained soil beneath his body, which was drug off by animals and eaten, by the request of Chisika (Cheeseekau) to John Watts.

Suggested edit: In documents Chisika or Cheeseekau was consulted on whether he preferred an attack at night or in the morning. He told John Watts to let him lead the attack in the morning alone. He said let them kill me and leave my body for the animals to eat. He was killed at the gate of Bledsoe's Station in Castilian Springs in Sumner County. This is documented in my book Heart of the Eagle:Dragging Canoe and in Robert Conley's book Cherokee Dragon. His blood stained the ground and the exact spot can be identified.
