Uke Ukens emmigrated from Germany in 1881 by way of the ship Elbe along with his family except for his oldest sister who decided to remain in Germany having recently married. Shortly after arriving and traveling to Kansas, his father and 3 siblings died from a flu outbreak. When the Trinity Church was formed in the town of Hudson in 1914, he became the first Treasurer. Frank Hitz was President and William Ochel was Secretary.
