Wyoming Governor. Moving at age eighteen to Big Muddy, Wyoming, in 1880, he began raising cattle using the registered brand of V Bar V. Becoming active in the Republican Party politics, he served in Wyoming's Second State Legislature. In 1905, he was elected as a Republican the seventh Governor of Wyoming, serving until 1911. After his term, he resumed his ranching interests until his death at age 83.
