Betty Jane (Shoemaker) Ackerman was called home by our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Aug. 12th, 2015 at her new home in Rozet, WY surrounded by her family. Visitation will be from 5pm until 7pm on Sunday, August 16th at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre. Funeral services will be at 11am on Monday, August 17th at the Congregational Church of Christ, burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre.

Betty was born on July 8th, 1933 to Clarence and Ruby Shoemaker in Dawson, NE. She and her family moved to the Gregory, SD area in 1936 and following her mother's death in 1939, she and her brothers lived in Nebraska for a short time. They then returned to the Gregory/Iona area. In 1954 she married Leland Rezac of Gregory and to this union 5 children were born. She was a homemaker until she and Leland were divorced, at which time she worked at St. Mary's Hospital. She became the personal cook for Gov. Richard Kneip until the end of his term in office. Betty took a job as a custodian at Washington school where she loved seeing the children every day, and remained there until her retirement in 1998. She married Ed Ackerman in 1990. She was a long-time and loyal member of the Ft. Pierre Moose Lodge, holding all offices at one time or another. She was a member of the VFW and the First Congregational Church. She enjoyed horseback riding, gardening, sewing, baking, playing cards and visiting with family and friends.

Betty is survived by her daughters: Nancy (Roy) Odle, Mt. Vernon, IN, Shirley Rezac, Pierre, Patricia (Dale) Person, Pierre, and Janet (Dave) Young, Rozet, WY, Son Richard (Pandy) Rezac, Highmore, SD, Brothers Dick (Joan) Shoemaker, and Clarence Shoemaker JR., both of Gregory, SD, 10 grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, brother John, sisters Ruth and Nancy, Grandson James Odle and first husband Leland.
