Joretta Chermak Mountford, age 84, of Manitowoc, died Thursday, August 13, 2015, at River's Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc with her family at her side.Joretta was born on June 15, 1931 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Harry and Mabel (Peterson) Chermak. She attended schools in Manitowoc and graduated with the class of 1949 from Manitowoc Lincoln High School. She then attended Francis Shimer College in Mount Carroll studying music. She furthered her education in health and physical education at George Williams College. On June 12, 1954 she married John W. "Jack" Mountford in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on August 6, 1998. Joretta was an active member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a volunteer at the Rahr-West Museum, Pine Crest Historical Village, Manitowoc County Historical Society, past president Manitowoc Elk's Lodge #687 Ladies Auxiliary, past member of the Manitowoc Library Foundation Board of Trustees. Joretta was very active with Girl Scouts, Heart-a-Rama and the Masquers. Joretta was also an avid bridge player.She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law: Jan (Dean) Graunke, Manitowoc; Julie (Ted) Welsing, Manitowoc; one son and two daughters-in-law: Teresa Mountford of Manitowoc; Jason (Kelli) Mountford, Waterloo, WI; five grandchildren: Bradley (Dawn) Welsing, Appleton; Ryan (Sarah) Welsing, Fond du Lac; Jadian Welsing, Manitowoc; Beau Mountford and his fiancée: Catherine Walton, Lake Mills, WI; Amber Datka, Waterloo, WI; three great grandchildren: Khloe, Abel and Elijah; one sister; Janet Chermak, Manitowoc; one brother and sister-in-law: Alan (Carol) Chermak, Manitowoc, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: John "Jack" Mountford; one son: John Mountford.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2015 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2601 South 10th Street, Manitowoc. Rev. Brian Staude will officiate with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum.
