She was born in Wabash County on May 31, 1932, to the late Frank David and Mildred Noreen (Lawson) Ramer.
In 1950, Floanna graduated from Somerset High School in Somerset. On her 18th birthday, she became the bride of Jack W. Swope in Akron. Together, Floanna and Jack owned and operated the Swope Service Station on Indiana 14, just west of Akron, from 1962 to 1966. Floanna retired from Hart Schaffner & Marx in 1997 after over 30 years of service.
As a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, Floanna's life was closely centered around her family. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, fishing and sewing articles of clothing for her grandkids.
Floanna is survived by a daughter, Frankie Swango and husband Mel, Rochester; two sons, Stephen Swope, Rochester, and Robert Swope and wife Lisa, Rochester. Nine grandchildren, David Willard and wife Jeanine, Valerie Hammel and husband Eric, Chad Swango and wife Misty, Drew Swango, Jeremy Swango and wife Kellie, and John Swope, all of Rochester; Christopher Swope and wife Laurie, Muncie; Joshua Swope, Charlotte, N.C.; and Rob Bruder, Indianapolis. 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a granddaughter, Ashley Swope; and two sisters, Geneva Stewart and Edna Fewell Waters.
A celebration of the life of Floanna Swope will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with Pastor Joe Helt officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
