6 March 1902
Nels P. Anderson died at his home just east of town on Wednesday, March 5th, at 12:05 a.m., after an illness of but a few days of pneumonia. Although old in years he had enjoyed remarkable vivacity until his last illness, and his death came as a sudden shock to his family and friends.
The deceased was born in Smoaland, Sweden, March 6, 1823, and grew up in the land of his birth. He was there married to his first wife who bore him one son, but who died before coming to this country.
On coming to this country he first located at Andover, where in 1866 he married his second wife, Mrs. Louisa Strand, who died four years ago. In 1870 Mr. Anderson moved to a farm east of New Windsor and in 1890 to the farm on which he died, just adjacent to town.
The deceased’s son by his first wife, C. J. Anderson, lived in this vicinity a number of years, but died a few years ago in Nebraska. Of the children of his second wife, three died in infancy and there remain Mrs. Ida E. Abrahamson, of Laurel, Nebraska; Mrs. Emily V. Roberts, of east of town; Albert C., living southwest of New Windsor, and Frank E. of Marathon, Iowa. Two brothers and two sisters, Rev. A. J. Anderson, of Chicago; Adam, who returned to Sweden last fall; Mrs. M. L. Hegglund, of Pierre, South Dakota, and Mrs. Lars Peterson of New Windsor also survive him.
Mr. Anderson had for many years been a member of the Swedish Methodist church and was always a man of integrity. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 o’clock from the house and at 2 o’clock from the Lutheran church. They will be conducted by Rev. Westling, assisted by Rev. W. H. Craine of Millersburg.
