Mrs. Elsie Mae Gwynn Bowman, age 85, of Ararat, VA, passed away peacefully at her home, Thursday, December 7, 2017. She was surrounded by her entire family. Mrs. Bowman was born February 20, 1932, in Patrick County, VA to the late Levi and Rachel Hall Gwynn. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She retired after more than 20 years from Renfro Hosiery Mills and then retired a second time from Brown Wooten Mills. She was the true matriarch of her family and spent her entire life serving them. Her joys included gardening, mowing her yard, cooking, her award winning canning, and walks across the creek. Mrs. Bowman is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Debbie Bowman, her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Lynn Watson; grandchildren and spouses, Tracie Hawks (Chris), Michael Leftwich (Jessica), Ashly Lancaster (Justin), and Haley Bowman; great grandchildren, Chandler and Carson Hawks, Braeton, Kase and Garrett Leftwich, Calvin and Caleb Lancaster; and a sister, Exie Evans. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Clifton Bowman, an infant daughter, Carol Ann; her sisters, Ella Marshall and Effie Bowman; and brothers, Curtis, Willard, John, and infant Woodrow Gwynn. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, December 11, 2017, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. John Bowman. Burial will follow in the Bowman Family cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home.
