Alpha Dale Board was born November 21, 1896, in Mountain View, Missouri, the daughter of William Taylor Briscoe and Alice May Steele. She died Thursday, September 26, 1991, at the Prescott Country View Nursing Home in Prescott, Kansas, at the age of 94.

In 1903, at the age of 7, Dale moved with her parents to Bates County, Missouri where she lived most of her life. She spent two years in Gorin, Missouri, where she graduated from high school, then two years in Warrensburg, where she attended college and received a teaching certificate.
She taught school - one year at Nyhart, two years at Foster, and two years at Greenview.

On December 24, 1920, she was united in marriage to Parker Board. To this union, two sons were born, and Dale became a fulltime farmwife and mother. As her health would allow, she was an active member of the Foster Methodist Church, the Women's Society of Christian Service, and the Foster Garden Club.

Dale was proud of her name and believed that the only other female with that name was "Dale Evans!" She liked the colors of pink and blue; except for yellow cheese, she liked every kind of food - especially ice cream. She enjoyed sewing, but loved to write letters and did so regularly to her brother, Alonzo, who lived in New York until his death. She also loved family get-togethers - her family or anyone's family.

Along with family and friends, her church played an important role in her life - even at the nursing home. One of her favorite Bible passages was the 23rd Psalm, and she often recited the Lord's Prayer. As she grew older and her health began to fail, she didn't complain and never wanted to cause anyone any trouble. Her sweet spirit and gentle attitude will be remembered by her many family and friends.

Dale is survived by two sons - Ernest and wife, Jeanne, and Glen and wife, Peggy, all of Foster; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and several nephews and neices. She was preceded in death by her husband, Parker, in 1979; two brothers, John and Alonzo; and one sister Opal Darr.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 30, 1991, at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler, Missouri, with Rev. Mark Oskee officiating and Brother Tom Farrington assisting. Burial was at Salem Cemetery near Foster, Missouri. Contributions may be made to the Foster Methodist Church.
